Grape Food

Yes, we are in the middle of crush here in Sonoma County. Yes, trucks hauling bins behind them are clattering up and down the road dropping whole clusters in their wake. Yes, when you walk into The Flying Goat, half of the people there have bags under their eyes and cuticles dyed purple.
But I’m […]

The Last Raise of Rosé

I don’t know about you, but I tend to think of rosé as a warm-weather wine. When the first sultry summer evenings beckon us outside, you can bet I’ll be holding a glass filled with something pink. With the cool weather moving in though, my thoughts have been turning a shade darker. So I was […]

Life’s a Bowl of . . .

Need I say more?
{  End-of-Summer Chopped Caprese  }
1 pound assorted heirloom tomatoes, cut into 1/2–inch cubes
2 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, cut into 1/2–inch cubes
1/4 cup fresh basil, julienned
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (the best you’ve got)
A splash of wine vinegar
Maldon salt and freshly ground black pepper
Toss together tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. Drizzle olive oil and […]

Where do You Hang Out Online?

I realize the title sounds a little pathetic, but I’m curious. I really am. To me, blogs are like having one-on-one conversations with people. You get to read where people are at, swap recipes, and really get to know them. Social networks like Facebook feel to me, on the other hand, more like going to a […]

Some Kinda Plum Sauce

My neighbor just dropped off about five pounds of apples as I was sitting down to write this post, so you can guess what you’ll find here later this month. But first, I’d like to pontificate on plums.
When I was growing up, I had an addiction to egg rolls. Sure, the crispy, greasy casing […]

Knock, Knock . . . I’m Here for the Wine Tasting Party

I was just on e-vite to pull together a little soiree for Christopher’s birthday and I came across this from Knock Knock, a cool little company I’ve never heard of:

Isn’t this cool? We talk a lot here about both how to evaluate a wine for its intrinsic qualities and how just to have fun with […]

Patty Cake, Patty Cake, Vintner’s Man

First, there was Patty Cake, Patty Cake, Baker’s Girl (I didn’t want Noe to grow up thinking she couldn’t bake because she wasn’t a man!). Then came Patty Cake, Patty Cake, Lobster Man (based on the lobstermen we met in Maine). And now that it’s harvest time and we see grapes hanging lush and ripe […]

Bun and Beans

I haven’t yet reported on the dual events of last weekend, spent split between San Francisco amongst fellow Slow Food devotees and here in Healdsburg amidst friends in the thick of harvest.
Slow Food Nation was an incredible kick off to the weekend. I pulled into San Francisco under a dome of clear blue sky and […]

Wine & Words Roundup Week #4

I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend as much as I did. Both events—Slow Food Nation and Sonoma County Wine Country Weekend—were blasts, as was the post-event dinner at The Eloquent One’s. And Pat came with more pancetta, which was a total bonus.
Speaking of bonus, Mansi from Fun and Food Cafe gets big bonus […]
