About the Novel

I never expected to write a novel. In fact, I was working on a memoir of the year my husband and I put everything we owned in storage, climbed in our Ford Explorer, and drove down to live in Costa Rica. But then a strange, “what if” scenario floated through my head one day and morphed into its own story.
Three years later, I Land Home was finished. Here’s a sneak preview:
Ella Santos, an American woman, has lived in a rural village on the Greek island of Corfu with her husband and his family for the past 15 years. She is steeped in the rhythm of rural life—harvesting olives, tending the garden, and working as a cook in the family’s restaurant. But when tragedy strikes, Ella is launched on a journey that leads her back to America, from coast to coast, from cook to chef, and finally home. Ella’s traditional Greek repertoire of pastitsio and avgolemno morph into flavors of her very own as she moves through the book, paralleling her personal growth as she struggles to integrate all parts of herself—Greek and American, past and future.

Hi Lia,
First of all I wanted to say thank you for the wonderful placement on your blogroll! What a great surprise to see my blog the Window Seat there.
Second, and more importantly, I wanted to tell you that I love what you are doing here. There is so much that intersects about travel, food, wine, and great friendships that make swirling notions a blog to visit.
I think it is stories of people and places that make travel come to life. I’m glad to learn about your novel and look forward to reading more.
Keep all the good writing coming.
And if I can make one request, do give us more on recipes and wines to share with our friends. We won’t think you’re pushing product — we want to know more!
